No Engine Upgrade, No Graphics Boost
Firstly, it’s important to note that the game has not switched engines, and there’s no improvement in graphics or UI. Additionally, there are no servers in China, which means network conditions remain unchanged. A new "UT Competitive View" has been added in the settings, allowing for a comparison with the cooperative view. While the UT view offers a broader perspective, it makes the characters appear smaller and flattens the view. I won't recommend a specific view; players should choose based on their preferences.
Offensive Changes
- Crossing and Headers: The return of low crosses allows players to score with headers in the current version. Corner kicks have increased speed, while goalkeepers are slower to react during corner defenses, making it easier to score.
- Passing: Short passes remain unchanged in speed but have slightly reduced accuracy due to lower player ratings. The ball’s trajectory can bounce, and powerful short passes are still effective. Long passes have a lower arc but slightly increased speed.
- Through Balls: The speed of lofted through balls has increased, while the arc has decreased.
- Dribbling Mechanics: Agile dribbling and explosive acceleration have been removed, but left stick sensitivity has been enhanced. Techniques like spins and turns are now more prominent.
- Skill Moves: Skill moves have been improved, with faster transitions between actions.
- Shooting Mechanics: Green shots and the active outside foot shot button have been removed. Now, outside foot shots are triggered passively by players with the appropriate skills. Low shots have returned, requiring a double tap on the shoot button for execution. The accuracy of shots has noticeably decreased, so practicing "Precision Shooting" is recommended.
- Micro-Management: The current version emphasizes micro-management, making practice with the left stick and ball protection key for success.
Defensive Changes
- Defensive Logic: The overall defensive logic remains focused on high pressure. The spacing between lines is larger than in FC25, requiring frequent offside traps to shorten the distance between defense and midfield.
- Goalkeeper Enhancements: Goalkeepers have received significant upgrades, making them more reliable.
- Defender Speed: Defenders are slower to recover, making it challenging to chase down attackers after losing position.
- Ball Physics: The ball’s unpredictable bouncing can lead to surprising situations, where it may bounce back to the opponent even after being intercepted.
- Stamina: Larger model defenders lose stamina faster than in FC25.
Mode Enhancements
In both the "Kick-off" and manager modes, players can choose between "Realistic Gameplay" and "Competitive Gameplay."
- Realistic Gameplay: Features heavy player inertia and a slower overall pace, with a higher rate of passing errors. This mode caters to players who prefer a more authentic football experience.
- Competitive Gameplay: Offers a balanced pace between season and UT modes, which I personally prefer for its moderate rhythm.
The season mode allows players to choose real teams for online matches, fitting well with the competitive gameplay slider. This mode is particularly suitable for older players seeking the essence of football that PES used to provide.
Manager mode has become more diverse, and I’m still exploring its features. I’ll share more insights once I have a better understanding.
I hope this summary helps players navigate the changes in FC26.
