Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4: Release Date, Platforms, DMZ, and What to Know

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 launches worldwide on October 23, 2026. The game continues the Modern Warfare story and brings together a single-player campaign, competitive multiplayer, and DMZ. If you’re deciding whether to buy it, checking which edition and platform you need, or wondering whether your Beta progress will carry over, the details below cover the main questions players are asking.

When does Modern Warfare 4 come out?

The full release date for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is October 23, 2026. Players who preordered digitally received earlier access to the campaign, while DMZ early access began before the full launch. The standard launch is the date to keep in mind if you’re waiting to play the complete release with friends.

Early access and preorder benefits depend on the edition and platform. Check the store listing for the version you plan to buy, especially if you are purchasing a code or a regional edition. The official Modern Warfare 4 announcement has the current release information.

Which platforms can you play Modern Warfare 4 on?

Modern Warfare 4 is announced for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2. PlayStation 4 and Xbox One are not included in the announced platform list, so players on those consoles should not assume that an older-console version is available.

If you play on PC, check the launcher and edition before purchasing. If you play on console, make sure the store page matches your system. Players joining friends on another platform should also review the game’s current account-linking and multiplayer settings before launch; platform features and options can depend on the game version and account setup.

What is included in Modern Warfare 4?

Modern Warfare 4 brings together three major ways to play: the campaign, Multiplayer, and DMZ. They serve different kinds of players, so it helps to know what each one is designed to offer before choosing where to start.

Campaign: the next chapter of the story

The campaign continues the Modern Warfare storyline and follows a conflict centered on the Korean Peninsula. It is the most direct choice for players who want a focused story experience, familiar characters, and a sequence of missions they can play at their own pace.

Campaign early access began before the full release. Progress rewards earned through the campaign can be used in other supported parts of the game after launch, according to the official campaign information. Players interested in the story may want to begin here before moving into Multiplayer.

Multiplayer: familiar modes and new launch content

Multiplayer is the main destination for players who enjoy short, objective-based matches and competitive progression. The launch lineup includes a broad selection of modes, with familiar choices such as Team Deathmatch, Domination, and Hardpoint alongside other options. Standard, alternate, and Hardcore variants give players different rulesets to try.

For returning players, the first few matches are a good time to test movement, learn the maps, and adjust loadouts. For players new to the series, starting with a familiar objective mode can make it easier to understand the flow of each map before trying faster or more specialized playlists. The official launch maps and modes overview is the place to check for the latest playlist details.

DMZ: a different kind of match

DMZ offers a different pace from traditional Multiplayer. Rather than focusing only on winning a short round, players enter an environment with objectives, opponents, and decisions about how long to stay. That makes preparation and teamwork especially useful: decide what you want to accomplish, communicate with your squad, and pay attention to the conditions of the current match.

DMZ early access started ahead of the full release. Check the in-game playlist and official updates for current access details, mode rules, and any changes made after launch.

Is Modern Warfare 4 coming to Game Pass?

Modern Warfare 4 is not included in Game Pass at launch. Activision has announced that the game is planned to join Game Pass in Holiday 2027. Players who want to play on release day should check the Xbox or PC store for the available purchase options instead of expecting launch-day access through a subscription.

Subscription catalogs can change, so check the current Game Pass listing before making a decision. Read the official Game Pass and launch announcement for the latest plan.

Does Modern Warfare 4 have crossplay or cross-progression?

Players planning to join friends on different platforms should check the current crossplay options and account settings in the game. Crossplay availability, matchmaking preferences, and account requirements can vary by platform and may change through updates.

Official materials describe cross-progression across supported platforms. To make sure eligible progress and rewards are associated with the right profile, use the correct Activision account and confirm that your platform account is linked to it. Avoid creating or linking a second account unless you understand how that may affect your progress.

Does Modern Warfare 4 Beta progress carry over?

Most Beta gameplay progress does not carry over to the full game. Beta levels, weapon unlocks, and similar progression reset for launch. Eligible Beta rewards are different: they remain tied to the Activision account that earned them and can be claimed in the full game when available.

If a reward is missing after launch, first confirm that you are using the same Activision account you used during the Beta. Then check the game’s reward or inventory menus and review the official Open Beta information for the reward rules.

What should PC players check before launch?

Before downloading, compare your computer with the latest official PC requirements. Confirm that your graphics driver and operating system are up to date, leave enough free storage for the game and updates, and check any security requirements listed by Activision. The official PC information also calls out TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot requirements, so verify those settings before launch rather than waiting until installation or matchmaking.

PC players should also confirm which launcher they intend to use and whether their preorder or game license is attached to the correct account. For current technical details, use the official PC features and specifications page.

Is Modern Warfare 4 worth playing?

That depends on what you want from Call of Duty. Players who follow the Modern Warfare story have a new campaign to explore. Competitive players can head into Multiplayer, learn the launch maps, and try different playlists. Players who prefer longer objective-based sessions can see whether DMZ suits their style.

Before buying, consider three practical questions: which platform you will use, which mode you expect to play most, and whether you want to purchase at launch or wait for later subscription availability. Checking those details can help you choose the right edition and avoid buying for the wrong platform.
