With the Frozen Trail update rolling out, the new Outpost system in Arc Raiders has drawn plenty of attention. Most players rush straight to build workbenches and weapon modification stations, completely ignoring the furniture system. There is a widespread misunderstanding that furniture only serves cosmetic purposes. In reality, functional furniture unlocks hundreds of independent storage slots and solves one of the most annoying pain points in the game: constant inventory and stash overflow. This guide walks you through the full unlock process, blueprint farming, storage rules, resource planning, and hands-on lessons learned from player testing.
Your Outpost comes from the Sheltered Retreat project quest. To start this questline, your character must hit level 18. The quest includes several objectives: take photos at ruined farm locations, turn in requested materials, and deal damage to ARC flying machines and Bully enemies as required by the mission objectives.
Once you finish the quest, you gain access to your base with basic crafting stations and research tables. You can break down abandoned junk inside your outpost room to collect starting materials like planks for your first furniture builds.
Our take: Do not max out advanced workbenches immediately after unlocking your outpost. Build basic storage furniture first to ease stash pressure, then invest resources into weapon upgrades later.
The update introduced over 100 furniture blueprints in total, and you can collect them from multiple sources. You can loot blueprints while exploring the Topside map, unlock more through outpost upgrades, earn them from battle pass rewards, or grab exclusive designs from DLC content. You must collect and learn a blueprint item before you can craft that furniture piece.
Materials can come from dismantling debris inside your outpost, world looting, or buying planks and thin metal sheets directly from NPC Celeste.
Pro tip: Never skip furniture blueprints while farming maps. A handful of early storage blueprints will drastically improve your whole gameplay experience.

This is the most important rule: storage furniture uses its own separate storage space and does not count toward your main stash 328 slot limit. Weapon racks can hold spare firearms, while cabinets and shelves store crafting materials and collectibles. Remember, not every furniture piece offers storage; many items exist purely for decoration.
To use storage furniture, place it in your outpost, right-click and select decorate to deposit items. Stackable items work well here. Weapons placed on racks must be retrieved before you can equip them. Also, some consumables and special quest items cannot be stored inside furniture storage. To place more furniture, you need to unlock expanded outpost rooms to get extra furniture placement slots. Expanded rooms cannot be swapped after selection.

Follow this priority order once your outpost unlocks. Clear and dismantle debris inside your base for starter materials first. Build storage furniture such as weapon racks and cabinets as your top priority. Once your stash situation stabilizes, upgrade gunsmith and research workstations. Save decorative furniture for last.
Use weapon racks to hold all spare guns and free up huge amounts of main stash space. Do not spend all planks and thin metal on cosmetic furniture. Visit Celeste to top up materials when supplies run low. Unlock extra rooms carefully to get more furniture positions. You don’t need to farm all 100 blueprints; just collect enough functional storage designs to fit your playstyle.

This furniture storage system is one of the best surprises from the Frozen Trail update. It solves the long-standing inventory pressure while letting players customize their base visually, and saves you from throwing away valuable loot constantly.
That said, the system still has clear downsides. Moving items into and out of furniture takes more clicks than using your normal stash. Certain item categories are blocked from furniture storage. Expanding your rooms costs a lot of resources, and blueprint drops depend on RNG luck. Our opinion is this is a clever design that combines decoration with practical gameplay benefits. The only issue is the game gives almost no clear prompt to tell players this feature exists, so most fans completely miss this powerful storage upgrade.
Outpost furniture in Arc Raiders is far more than cosmetic decor. Functional storage furniture adds hundreds of separate slots that sit outside your main stash cap. Complete the Sheltered Retreat quest to unlock your outpost, prioritize storage furniture over decorations, and be aware of item storage restrictions. Manage resources smartly and avoid overbuilding decorative pieces. You don’t need to fill every room or collect all blueprints; build just enough storage to keep your loot organized and enjoy smoother raids.
